“A couple has revealed that they saw 23-year-old Utar graduate Loh Sing Ying being beaten and robbed.

A couple said they were taking a morning walk in Taman Wahyu when they saw two men trying to snatch her handbag.

“They saw someone in a 4WD stop beside her and try to snatch her bag.

“The couple, who were a short distance away, cried for help and ran towards Sing Ying but by then the car was gone,” said Sing Ying’s brother Loh Chun Chia, 28, when met at the Hospital Kuala Lumpur morgue on Saturday.

He said the couple could not see the incident clearly as their view was blocked by some political banners.

“When they reached her, my sister was lying on the ground but still alive.

“They said she was conscious but unable to speak,” he said.

Chun Chia added the couple then hailed the armed forces personnel, who was driving by, to call for an ambulance.

“The couple left her on the sidewalk thinking that she was going to be okay.

“They only found out my sister had passed away when they saw the news later that night (Friday),” he said.

The next day the couple managed to locate Sing Ying’s family and related their story.

Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Zakaria Pagan confirmed police have recorded statements from the couple and are now investigating the case as a snatch theft-cum-murder.

“The post-mortem report revealed the cause of death was liver laceration and internal bleeding as her lower back and front abdominal was heavily hit,” he said.

Sing Ying was robbed and beaten near her house, while walking to a bus stop on her way to work.

She had just started working at a bank in Jalan Imbi after recently graduating from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (Utar) with a business administration degree.

She was the youngest of three siblings.”
