Girls will be tested for virginity before entering high school in Sumatra, Indonesia
H.M. Rasyid, the head of education board in South Sumatran District, has announced that all girls are required to undergo a virginity test before getting into high school.
According to Rasyid, every women have the rights on their virginity and it is personal, however, the test is to ensure students not to commit negative acts. He added that premarital sex and prostitution numbers have been increasing in the past few years and that this method will definitely decrease it.
The good news is, the Indonesian Education Minister, Mohammad Nuh, and the National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) both slams the idea by saying it’s an embarrassment and that the student’s body is not a dominion of public officials.
The bad news on the other side is that the plan had already been budgeted and would be implemented in 2014, said Rasyid.
The Questions here from FM is, what about the boys? And what happens to the girls that are not a virgin? We think this is unfair for the girls if the boys don’t need to undergo this test. What you guys think?
